But today, I was trying to make this a Zone 2 ride, where my HR would range between 145-159 bpm in that zone. But the wind made it harder, and I ended up on the high end of Z2, with some time spent in Z3. I'm ok with that, though.
To answer greg's question, yes I entered my RHR and Max HR for the garmin... 55 and 194, respectively. So 158 bpm may seem high, but it's not that difficult for me to go for a few hours at that HR. My redline is about 174 or 175 bpm. I guess my ticker is a fast beater, so...
After thinking about it, that Strava is lowballing my cal burn seems logical because it does not account for the wind. Strava will also tell you that my average output is 110 W, but I was definitely not averaging 110 W on a windy day like this. No idea on what my actual power is as I don't have a power meter, but pretty sure the Garmin's cal burn is more credible, at least for today's activity.
Next time I'm in a hilly area, I'll check Strava to see what power I generate at different HR levels. I *think* my 5-min power is around 260 W when I'm in top shape and form, but I may be too generous.
