I just a sold a bike (70's Centurion LeMans "7" mixte) with a Shimano Inter-7 hub with an old Suntour thumb shifter instead of a grip shifter. Then again, I'm crazy. You might be able to find something like this at one of the bike co-ops in the DC area, or perhaps the parts to put one together.
