excellent point, you would think I would have learned by now. certainly guilty of taking a supposed short cut and ending up doing more work in the process. so since I initially broke and sized the chain, it has one master link and by inserting a few more links I now essentially have two. I have a 5700 chain with solid pins, but went ahead and used the hollow dura ace pins when I inserted the other end of the new section and it seemed to seat in there really well, no binding and can't tell it from the other links. Of course I will ride with a back up and go by the shop to get another master link type pin that I can break off and be confident it will stay put.
