No point comparing Sora with anything else; different mechanisms. Same goes for different generations of STI; Shimano really mix it up.

If the derailleur's stop was interfering, I'd almost expect the click to be louder, at least on the downshift away from it. You can tell a left STI isn't having a fun time if that's the case...
