I was surprised 89 was more than enough and if lacking a little I would rather be able to climb and then coast the big hills when I spin out than pushing it up the hill.
i'm pushing 42 with a 3yr old daughter, my days of pushing huge gears are on hold for a while. i've got a vintage maruishi lugged steel mtb that is geared similarly, but with the granny still on and 1.5 inch slicks. it's perfect for cruising around town on.
