Those airline overage charges would mount up mighty fast, being as when I go internationally I use at least two different tickets on 2 different airlines each way, plus often I make an intermediate stop to visit family when I go on the long (French) trips. ~$75 x3 in each direction would buy another bike pretty quickly on my French trips (twice yearly), and then when I go to California it could be another $150 round trip. It is just that sort of thing that would cause me (knowing myself) to buy a bike and then leave it in the garage and not take it with me, after deciding it wasn't worth several hundred dollars, this time, ​to take the bike along.
