Which Portland - Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Indianna, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Australia or some other one? (I assume that it is Oregon or Maine, but we need to remember that this is an international forum. )

Since you have said that your are "not worried about how it folds", I recommend you try a different handlebar with a bit more sweep (or rise) first. Keep in mind that you may need to get longer brake and gear cables. The Avenir Circa bar should be available from your local Raleigh dealer for less than $20. See: http://www.avenirusa.com/parts-and-a...andlebars.html This handlebar with some locking ergonomic grips (such as the Arcx griips from ThorUSA) has been the solution for several of our customers who wanted a more upright riding position on other types of bicycles.
