Just went this past weekend and going again this coming weekend. Both at lakes. I'm in the process of trying to figure out how to mount PVC rod holders vertically on my rear rack; I've seen plenty of horizontally mounted DIY rod holders, but my 7' and 8' rods would strike tree limbs if mounted that way. I suppose I could just disassemble the rods, but that's a pain (to me anyways...laziness) and I would like an option for one-piece rods in the future.
Just cut some PVC and use a few U-bolts. Or, mount the pvc on a hunk of plywood and mount that to the rack. I had a pvc surboard rack that I used a lot, it was really just a few right angle couplings, pipe, and some hose clamps.
