What truly defies logic is that most people seem to know intuitively that the "war" on drugs is a colossal failure and a menace to civil liberties, but give them a chance to stop it with their votes and nine times out of ten they'll vote to keep things the way they are. Thus, no politician anywhere--even on the so-called "libertarian" wings of the Democratic or Republican parties--is willing to come out and call for an end to the madness, on the record.
