From: 6 miles inland from the coast of Sussex, in the South East of England

Our Money is now metric-Young persons measure in metric and fuel is sold in litres. The doctors now measure weight and height in metric and prescribe medicines in Metric volumes.

So why are My trousers bought as 32"- collar size for shirts is 15"- and Fuel consumption is in Miles per gallon?

We are partly metric and partly imperial. We used to buy 4 ounces of tea- or sweets but when metrification came along- 4oz became 125 grammes. Over the years the 125g has become a smaller pack at 100g but I still refer to it as 1/4 lb. Last time I was at the butchers I asked for 4 steaks at 6 ozs and it took the old fellow at the back of the shop to serve me.

When we went metric- there was a worry that the "Old Folk" would not be able to adapt. They were wrong----It is the youngsters that are having trouble in not being able to work in the two systems that are still both legal and valid.
