Keep in mind that a white LED with a red lens causes all the light spectrum besides the red portion to be filtered out. That means only the red portion of the visible light is making it through the lens, which means the light output is greatly reduced from that of the original white LED light. I proved it myself by comparing red vs. white LED replacement bulb's for my car's tail/brake lights a few years ago.

A red LED is always best for the most red light output.
