I would not want a flat bar road bike unless I had some back issues that prevented me from riding with drop bars. I do not know what it would cost to change over to drop bars and STI shifters. I would look into that first and see if the changeover would be cost prohibitive. As the bike is, in my opinion, $400 is a bit steep.
