A DUTCH/JAPANESE TREAT?
I received an email out of the blue on Friday from an Ann Arbor seller that I first approached in October last year about a 1982 Koga-Miyata GentsRacer Aero. The seller used the bike in Holland and brought it to the USA. I thought the bike was sold via fleabay, but he wrote to ask me if I was still interested.
Well his timing couldn't be better as it has been over 90 days since I last bought a bike or a project in this case. It's a Champion manga moly db tube set, Shimano 600 AX cranks and Aero rear brake, and Golden Arrow RD. Paint and decals are okay for a 31 year old. Besides wheels, freewheel, seatpost, seat bolt, saddle, levers, and most importantly a front brake. I see loosescrews has the missing small pieces to complete the rear brake assembly.
I love the mid century aero design of the rear brake, but it's not known for working particularly well, the arms are not adjustable, and you'd have to hand sand and fit pads into the brake arms. Finding a front AX Aero replacement on fleabay is very pricey, more than I paid for the frameset. So here are the alternatives:
A. If a BF member can help
facilitate in Ashville NC or Buffalo NY, there are Huffy Aerowinds available for a song. I just want the Aerowind groupset, including cranks, you can donate away fork.
B. Or should I just hang a different set up brakes on the frame?
Please offer up your suggestions!
