I think that's correct. The finish on the later models was much nicer than that of Racers too. I think also that there may have been three different reach versions of the Competitions through their product life and that the mounting bolts were slightly different on the Competitions. But, all-in-all not much different than Racers; just a little dressier.

I'm a fan of both Racers and Competitions. They provide good clearance, aren't difficult to setup and with good pads provide excellent stopping power.
