I have always assumed carrying an expensive knife was some sort of prop for dudes that like to pretend they're super handy and outdoorsy.
Ive had a knife of some variation since i was around 8, i feel naked without one
I use it to pry, screw, scrape, open, and of course cut stuff, in a pinch perhaps self defense
I cant remember a day where i havent used it
Ive never carried an expensive knife every day, like nagrom says they like to dissapear
The one i had for the longest was some junk shrade lockback and i had for about 9 years and just kept razor sharp
This year im planning to get a benchmade x doug ritter mini griptillian with custom scales and/or a benchmade mini barrage with asissted opening. Benchmade is amazing quality and thats why im willing to pay the money for them
Ive never had a problem with cops even when i was in a situation where i had been confronted by them either. I said ahead of time what i had on me and appreciated my honesty
Im currently carrying a victorinox cadet with alox scales, things got 8 functions and is 1/4" thick
I also have a squirt ps4 on my keys which give me little scissors which i find invaluable, the pliers are their other primary reason i have them and so far have been used at least once a week
Needless to say im a knife lover and advocate.
