That Alpina-D FD is exactly what I use on my touring bike with a MTB crank and STI road shifters. It takes some shuffling of crank spacers to bring the chainline in from the natural 50mm of a MTB crank. The Alpina-D doesn't like a 50mm chainline. That's all part of what I mean by being creative.
