You are right, when loosing weight you do good to count the calories you eat. Pick a certain target and look at how the weight develops over time. If you are not loosing anything then just adjust the target and eat a bit less. But it is never going to be an exact science.

But the importance of how much exactly you burn for some activity is whatever you want to give to it. So if somebody wants to know, we should be able to have that discussion without other people saying it doesn't matter...
