I remeber a friend of mine had tires similar to these that he would throw on his bike when it got bad up in pittsburgh. they felt just like nobby mountain tires only thinner, and boy did they help!!

i don't know how good of an idea it would be to leave them on for a season though.
seems to me they might not do so well with that.
