Tubes Going Flat in Old Rim
I'm slowly bringing back a 1980 Motobecane Grand Jubile to reliable riding status. My current issue is keeping my rear tube from popping. The bike came with wheels built with Suntour Superbe rims that I don't have the money to invest into rebuilding. When I pull the flatted tube off the rim, it has "nipples" - the rubber has been pushed by pressure (I never go above 85 psi on 27"x32mm tires) into the spoke holes, where it has either been extruded enough to pop, or has come into contact with a spoke end and been punctured. The rim still has the original 33-year old rim tape. Will new rim tape remedy this issue (the old stuff is definitely worse for wear), or do I have to do something more drastic? Thanks.
