I am building a poor mans cycloross, and need a few questions answered. Experienced bike shop mechanic, but "some" things out of normal knowledge of modern components I am lacking in. I have two questions?
First: Will a grey Deore LX (9 speed hub) accept a ten speed cog set?t(I am pretty sure it will, but don't know for sure?) I have a set front/rear of these hubs that have never been laced, and they should be up to the durability requirements, but I will be running 10 speed if I can help it. Already have the rear STI.
Second: What is the largest cog set that an Ultegra 6600 short cage RD will accept? I was thinking maybe 28? Possibly no bigger than 25? I just don't know, honestly.,,,BD
These are the hubs I am using, laced to as yet undecided rims. Maybe Velocity Chukkers?

These are supposed to be some seriously strong rims, that will even take the occasional bike polo mallet whacks. If they can survive fixie tricks and bike polo, they should be plenty strong enough for me, haha.
