It seems to me it would be quite feasible to be car free, bike free, and live simply, LCF style, by renting a trailer within shopping cart vicinity of a large Big Box Super Store that sells food. Good for work at home types as well as employees of the big box store. Use Amazon for the luxuries that Walmart doesn't sell.
I don't know if you are being facetious or not, but I think you've nailed my lifestyle. The closest shopping is a large grocery store which is next to a Sam's Club and a Walmart. So if I'm stuck for shoes or hardware or a pair of gloves, I'll consider Walmart... although need to be careful about the quality. For better quality items, have to travel a bit more.
To be honest, there aren't many of those local stores anywhere around. Better quality hardware at Lowe's, Home Depot or True Value.
And... yes... if I need something not easily obtained, I'll shop at Amazon.
