I am in agreement with your father. I have no objection if clubs go out for a ride and they want a pace line set up to increase speed or save energy but only where it is not going to endanger other road users. And as for speeding on the MUPs- that is just plain stupid. We in the UK are beginning to see a lot of empathy with cyclists on the road and I don't want that to deteriorate. It is not only cyclists on the MUPs-- We have a local running club that uses the MUP for training and they do it sensibly as a club. But it only takes one idiot- runner or cyclist- to give everyone else a bad name.

And going on in a similar vein---Strava.

Strava has these local targets such as sprints between certain points on the road. These "Sprints have now been picked up as a reason for cyclists to race to better times set by others. This is being highlighted in the National Press as in the link below.
