indeed, the only 'perfect for all eternity' machines are the ones that are hung in a display case behind glass, and never used.

ride it, clean it, lube it, replace parts as they wear out. you'll get years and years from a decent bike (I have one that is 38 years old, its sure not perfect, but it still rides well).
