As for the recommendations on bikes... Any ideas on Trek? I poked through their offerings, and found most of them to be aluminum frames... Is that going to work for someone of my size? A local friend I used to ride with ALOT, is still in the biking thing, and well, he recommended someone 400+ should go for a steel frame until my body weight is a bit more manageable for aluminum, so is that something I should be heavily concerned on ? (no pun intended), or would it be okay, so long as I make sure to hit up a better set of wheels (steel 26" seem to be the norm for bigger folks like me, does that still hold true?).

Thanks again, and hmm, summer, July, cool folks to ride with. Sounds like a plan.
I'd not worry about the frame. I'd regained some weight from knee trouble and being sedentary while recovering from knee replacement, and my accountability partner started riding at 455 an aluminum framed bike. He's had trouble with the rear wheel, but not with the frame, and the manufacturer stated in an email that the bike's frame will be OK despite his weight being 200 pounds over the limit.

I recommend riding the stock wheels, with regular checkups, until you have a problem. If you take care of them the stock wheels should hold up for a while, and possibly you might never need to change them.

I arrive outside of Akron July 19 and I'm leaving the 25th. Hopefully we can meet for a ride.
