I live in a city where lane splitting is the rule and not the exception, and having ridden motorcycles and of course bicycles here, I would and do definitely restrain from doing it since I've witnessed too many accidents (some fatal), from doors being opened while waiting at stop lights to cars swerving into another lane (occupied) so they could rush into it went traffic starts moving.

Also being a seasoned driver, I know how bad blind spots are in modern cars, and how easy it is to lose track of another vehicle when you're in an urban environment with dense intersections and heavy traffic.
