I'm a mechanic. Couple years ago, I sold some tools to a woman who did dept store assembly, as her tools were stolen.
Her take: It's grueling work. Not for the faint of heart. Pressure is always more, more, more, and it didn't matter if the bikes were not assembled properly. Forks backward, brake pads that wouldn't contact the rim, headsets so loose it was dangerous to ride, you name it.
I asked her, doesn't this mean liability becomes an issue? She said no, as long as a bike looked assembled, the company was happy.
