If you mean the trail that goes up and over the hill that the tunnel goes through, I have read on the yahoo group that this trail is treacherous enough with a bike with no gear let alone a bike fully loaded. And the is with walking the bike.
I believe this is the current recommended detour but sounds like a better option is going to be required.
