........mostly because I carry my spare tubes, tire levers, keys, etc in a seat wedge back there.
It's not ideal, but it won't scratch the paint (so far, anyway) and it is pretty flexible in terms of placement location.

Whenever i have had a bike that had nice paint and I wanted to clamp something to it, I've used
rubber strips cut from tubes under the metal clamps with pretty good results.........
