DT Swiss Front hub Maintenance question
Hello,
I am looking for tips on my front hub from a Bontrager Race-X-Lite 29er rim. It has the FCC hub.
I have two sets of these wheels. One set spins very smoothly and the other set has some resistance. The hubs have been wet several times and I assume the bearings are not in the best shape. Being anal retentive and given that it has been too muddy to ride here in Maryland on some of my favorite trails, I decided to replace the bearings on the wheel with the resistance.
The front hub (DT swiss type) has removable caps, a dust seal of some type, and a bearing on each side.
The bearings were replaced with a standard sealed bearing of the same type. After pressing in the new bearings, the wheel spins smooth as butter and the axle is nice and snug. Everything looks great. I put a small layer of grease on the outer face of the bearing seal, placed the dust seal back in place on both sides, and screwed on the caps. Now there is some resistance again. Not much, but more than my other set of wheels.
Is there anything I am missing on installing the dust seals or end caps on this wheelset. I am just barely tightening the caps. Its not a major deal but I would like to remove this little resistance that seems to be caused by the installation of the dust seals and/or end caps.
Thanks for any tips you can provide.
