I think it was meant as a joke but that's what I would do. Unless it's completely trashed, you should try to fix it. I read an article that if the wheel is seriously bent, you should first try to get it into roughly the right shape by means of a rubber mallet because tightening the spokes alone would snap them. If you're thinking of replacing anyway, you might as well try fixing it before spending your money.
