Bikes: Seriously downsizing.

New Shimano 7-speed brifters OR Top joins the 21st century (or late 20th, anyway).

I had built up this Miele with the Modolo 'fit anything' brifters. The rear worked passably well but the front had both a long sweep on the thumb lever and a huge dead spot at the start of the motion. Hence I didn't ride the Miele as much as I would have liked last season.
Last week these came in the mail:

nothing special to most folks here but only the second pair I've owned. Spent yesterday doing the 'ol switcharoo and.....

MUCH better than the Modolos! The only downside is I couldn't get the front to play nice with the 1987 vintage 1050 FD. I replaced it with an Exage 500EX. There was improvement, but I still can't totally eliminate chain rub on the FD cage at both ends of it's sweep.
