i use naval jelly rust remover on all the little bits -- bolts, nuts, washers, clips, skewers, etc. he bits are submerged in the jelly for five minutes, retrieved and washed/scrubbed, and resubmerged if necessary. you can give a frame a similar acid bath diluted in water, and bf threads cover this topic. use auto sandpaper in progressively finer grades on components. you also might want to post some pics here to raise interest in your project. good luck!
