My standard answer is no, you can't mix Shimano rear derailleurs and Campagnolo shifters. I believe that MTB and road rear derailleurs are compatible (Shimano only)
Two exceptions:
1. Campagnolo 8-speed shifters with pre-2001 rear derailleurs with Shimano/SRAM 8-speed cassettes
2. Campagnolo 10-speed shifters with Shimano rear derailleur and Shimano 10-speed cassette
Other than these two, you're out of luck. If you want to get the Shiftmate, you have tons of choices. That's all.
