If you're stripping the paint try the cheapest weakest strippers first, they might be able to peel off the spray paint without taking off too much of the original finish, it might be worth a shot, I had that happen to me with a miyata I just finished refurbishing. Yours looks like a nice project for sure! I've enjoyed all the px10 threads lately.
