after 4 mornings of 20-30 knot headwinds out of the north this week, it was blessedly calm and mellow today.

I think your winds just moved down South. It is really blowing in NC today, and has been all week. We had wind gusts near 50 mph on Wednesday. Today they are a mere 30 mph, but I am riding into headwinds nearly all the way home.
