I don't like pumps. Have ridden with them but had some bad experiences with them not fitting on the bike well and falling off. I ride small frames and it seems like everything in the industry is designed to NOT work on smaller frames. Even mini pumps.
I did carry a pump when I commuted long distance and had panniers.
+whatever to knowing the cause of your flat before replacing the tube.
CO2 - I bought a box of 25 for $5 like...9 years ago. Still have a ton. Cheaper than a pump.
I carry enough for others and use it way more for them rather than I.
OP - tip - when you pull the tube out tie a knot into it. Keeps you from being able to mount it again even when you get home and mistakenly leave it on the counter and your wife moves it back into the shop and you don't remember where it came from. I do the same with tubulars. I keep old tubulars I can re-use on team wheels, so I need to know when it's a problem one that needs repair before use.
