Been there done that. I spent more time installing the ferrules than I typically spend on a whole cable job. I'm not sure i can give you much guidance other than recommending a very sharp housing cutter that doesn't deform the housing at all.

Felco C7, plus use a punch to flare the ferrule end, and apply a little K-Y lube.
