If you have an iPad then you can get one of these which will let you pull photos off your camera's SD card:

I don't know how to do it with non-Apple tablets such as a Google Nexus or Kindle Fire but I suspect it is even easier as they generally have USB ports so you can probably use the cable that came with the camera.

If you have not yet bought a camera then you could get one of the new ones that has wifi connectivity. Some of the new Cannon models will let you transfer photos directly to a tablet over wifi such as this one:
