AVI isn't really telling you much, AVI is just the bucket it shovels data into. I'd want to know the codec. That's more important than the container.

None of it matters much if they have a lousy compression chip or their bitrate is too low though, you'll still get crap video. It's even possible that they're interpolating up to 1280x720. You don't really know until you test it.
