To control the aesthetics, drill the the pin out from the back side pushing them forward, a good hardware store, even OSH will have the pin drift you need, for the stainless pins, drill them first with an undersize drill, say .090 or 3/32" then cut the flare with a small countersink, then drive. for pins you could use some stainless drill rod or even a clevis pin, which will require machining to fit well, used cir-clips once as used by Mavic on the "Erector set units", what a cool looking unit...
