It weighs just under 25 lbs. with platform pedals [Sans tool bag, pump and water]- it's a very comfortable bike. I'm still impressed with it- even compared to my Klein, which, if it were new, in today's dollars would probably equate to a bike that costs 10x more than the Mercier. Really- for such a cheap bike, the Mercier is impressive- and I have not upgraded one thing on it. Bikesdirect also has a few other bikes in that price range that might interest you- and they all seem to be of about the same quality. I just say that because if it's flat where you are, you likely don't need a triple crank.......
But that'll get you out there and riding. I was wanting to buy a used CL bike too, when I was starting out. After a few months of looking, I couldn't find anything decent for $300, which is why I went with the Mercier. I feel that I more than got my money's worth with it; and I would have had to find a really great deal on CL to do any better. My Klein might be a little fancier, with some Dura Ace parts and all......but I'll tell you, I notice very little difference between both bikes.
Oh...I did upgrade one thing: The tires- as the originals blew-out after only a few hundred miles (Well, one was my own fault...). This Mercier is essentially a clone of a Fuji (I forget which model) that sells in bikes shops for around $800- same exact frame. I was leery of ordering the Mercier initially- expecting I'd end up with some Walmart-esque bike....but I'll tell you, this is ain't no Walmart bike.
If you should decide to get one, I'd say that the 54cm will fit you perfectly at 5'11". (I'm 5'10" and have the 54cm)
I just recently measured my inner leg length and it was between 83 and 84 cm if that information is important in choosing bike sizing. I kind of felt that a 56cm frame would be better which is not available for the bike you suggested and 58cm is probably too big. I'm assuming each bike brands' frame size varies for example a 54cm frame from Mercier might be like a 56cm frame on a traditional bike and could therefore fit me. But I'm not sure so correct me if I am wrong.
I'll be considering that bike. Now I'm curious about everything I need to know if I were to assemble that bike myself. I have most tools that I would need for the most part.
