I understand exactly what your saying BUT after having lived with Di2 I no longer see it as being any more complex then mechanical. It has removed the need for me to do seasonal cable changes. It has removed my concern about riding in crappy weather due to shift cables getting get full of road salt and what not. I have one wheelset where the cassette is just a little bit off from my other wheelsets and it used to take a twist or two of the barrel to get it right and now it takes 2 pushes of the trim button. My point is that yes Di2 is different but it really is no more complex and in many ways it is less complex and takes less maintenance. I check my battery gauge every few weeks and if it shows low I toss the battery in the charger. It is just not a big deal.
This is one of those conversations where people will just never agree and there is no right or wrong answer. Carbon or steel, Clincher or tubular, 8spd or 9spd or 10spd OR 11spd.....etc.....
