I think you're on the right track. I also have a vintage Raleigh that is really fun to ride but oh does it ever beat me up. I also tried a modern road bike but the hoods are just too far of a stretch for me and I cannot hold my neck like a goose for that long anyway. Glad your enjoying the ride again.
