Helmet/Bar Cams, Gopro or Contour?

I have some money to spend on something frivolous and I was thinking of getting a helmet cam. All the reviews point to one of these two, Gopro and Contour, with the Gopro Hero 3 Black being considered the best of the lot. I've also read though the user reviews on Amazon and some of them are pretty blistering in that while there is no issue with video quality, there are battery issues, build quality issues, wifi issues and service issues. It seems like they bit off more than they could chew by packing so much into something so tiny.

OTOH, the Contour +2 seems to be a decent package, but for the same price doesn't compare feature by feature. I originally liked the form factor better until I saw the two side by side. The Contour looks like a flashlight at first look, and a cylindrical camera would be great, but it really isn't, and it is big by comparison. The Gopro is truly tiny. What the Contour does have is GPS, so you get a read of where the video is taken, except when underwater I suppose.

YouTube footage favors the Gopro IMHO.

I plan on using it on the bike of course, mostly city rides, my son is a pilot and he would take it with him on flights, we have a trip to Hawaii coming up, so underwater and surfing too. Maybe my kids would use it skiing, but I don't ski myself. And I'm sure there are lots of idiotic uses of the thing!

Can anybody with first hand experience tell me what they think of their cameras?
