OK I do agree you can hack a old pair of DT shifters and use them as cable stops, it doesn't look great but I understand how it can work. How would you do that in this case?

The cable and housing would have an odd extra loop or bend to get them pointed in the right direction to go into the modified shifter and into the guide tubes inside the DT. I think this would cause undo drag on the cable and make shifting sluggish at best.

Do run the cables in any other manner requires clamp on cable guides.
