Totally conincidental benefit is that I love the unusual look of it, but that wasn't a factor when I planned it.

I have considered a similar setup. But I would use Time Trial brake levers on the Bullhorn handlebar and downtube shifters as the Surley has the brazed on bosses.
Anyway I bought a Kona Smoke instead. It has grip shifters; which I am not crazy about but as you say everything is right at your hands.
