No don't pull off to the opposite side. Take it to the front and take as short a pull as you can. Pull off as soon as it is clear. Then go back to where you think you can last.

If you are covering, skipping pulls, or resting for the sprint, do it at th back of the pace line. When the front rider pulls off, swing over behind him leaving him the gap you left to slot in. Repeat.
