While I can see both sides presented here;
Sometimes the attitude of a bunch of guys who are big shots in their local little club just kill me. End of last summer I was on a group ride (one I fairly regularly went on), and we in the "fast" group were chasing down these two guys who had bolted away.
2-ish miles later we catch up. The guy on the front of the paceline pulls off, then the guy behind him does too. I can't tell what the heck they're doing; looks like they're either trying to chat with the two we caught, or grab onto their wheels. Whatever, it was kind of a confused mess in front of me with what was starting to become a jumble of 4 riders still in our path, so I eased off to follow the guy in front of me, who was kind of still in front, kind of not, and either way it was his turn to pull.
At which point one of the dudes we caught turns to me and screams as the top of his lungs: "What the f@#$ is wrong with you!!? This is f@#$ing cycling!! Aren't you going to f@#$ing pull!!!?"
"Not for you" was my reply, and I dropped right out of the line and let them go. It was the last time I went. I had already been pondering quitting...nobody seemed to be having any fun, they were just acting like type-A @$$holes. That ride pretty much sealed the deal. I wasn't a new guy there, and I certainly know how to ride in a good paceline. But I ride for fun.
What do I need that garbage for? I'm a fighter pilot. I thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the ride, and hope that those guys, when they're done proving what big men they are on the local bike shop ride, enjoy going back to whatever job it is that compels them to act like that to people in what should be a fun getaway.
