are you talking about 135, or 170mm rear wheels or something else? Some mountain bikes have asymmetric rear triangles, and sometimes asymmetric forks. In the end, the chainline has to be fairly straight. Most fatbikes have 100mm bb shells which moves the chainline over 16mm. It really depends on the builder. Symmetry is overrated.
