I'm not sure I agree with the arguments against IGHs.
I have a Shimano Nexus 3sp on my daily work commuter and it has worked like a dream for my purpose.
In Singapore where I live, I sometimes have to deal with traffic lights every 200m (220 yards) in the city. The convenience of being able to shift to first whilst stopped brings a lot of relief to my tired legs. And my bike with panniers and other accessories weigh easily 17kgs (37 lbs) I think. Getting started again easily is vital to keep my ride enjoyable.
Furthermore, I've seen what can happen to derailleurs if you get too close to the higher concrete step that is the pedestrian walkway. They get mangled up that's what. The IGH keeps everything neatly packed within the confines of the rear wheel. I've now begun to view derailleurs as appendages that the doctor forgot to sew back in. Sure derailleur guards help, but that's additional weight anyway right?
There are other benefits like you don't have to worry about the chain. There's no stretching so it will keep for much longer. There's no need to lubricate the thing either.
Even with the additional weight (how much more weight is that anyway?) I think the benefits outweigh the cons. For sure it's great for use in an area with loads of traffic lights.
